Club Updates & Club Finals Day Date Change

ETIQUETTE - With the growing membership and court usage please be respectful of other members/players and remember court etiquette - before entering courts to always wait for a break in play (end of a game) or players on court letting you enter to cross the courts.

COURT ACCESS - Please avoid using the gate of court 2 to access court 1.  The 4-digit code on the court 1 padlock should be entered across the top row of numbers and not middle row.

JUNIOR SUCCESS - Several of our Junior members recently competed in the Oxfordshire County Tennis Festival held at North Oxford Tennis Club.  Owen Ashton competed in the U9 Boys, Shanaya Yasin in the U9 Girls, Ayden Yasin U10 Boys and Sebastian Sheldon U10 Boys.  All the Juniors competed over and above expectations.  Kicking things off with Owen Ashton just missing out on a consolation semi final spot by only a matter of points - his game has come on leaps and bound this summer.  Shanaya Yasin missed out on the final spot after having to play back to back quarter final and semi-final matches eventually coming 3rd winning her playoff match in fantastic style.  Older brother Ayden Yasin competed well in the U10s unfortunately just missed out on a consolation final spot losing in the 3rd set tiebreak 10-8.  Last but by no means least Sebastian Sheldon who won the U10s Boys in amazing style just losing 3 games all tournament he then went on to win the boys doubles.  Well done Seb and all our juniors who competed a great achievement.

Henley Tennis Club session WhatsApp group - HTC Club Sessions official

If you're not already a member of the WhatsApp group, please do join as it's a great resource to communicate with fellow club members and gauge interest for Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday club sessions. SEARCH: HTC Club Sessions official.

Times: Tuesday & Thursday 6:30pm - 9pm and Sunday 10:30am - 1pm

Rules:
Club sessions are social doubles play. Players are expected to mix in.

In order to minimise delays and ensure straightforward switchovers, we've recently introduced a random selection process - court numbers will be drawn to select players into 4's at the start of the session and at every switchover. Numbers are for court allocation and pairings (first two of same number are pairs vs the second two of same number).

If there are 6 players or more in attendance, 8 games should be played and then a compulsory change must occur.

If the top courts are in use, players on the lower courts should keep playing until sessions on the top courts have finished and are ready to switchover.

A poll is sent the day before each club session in order to gauge attendance. Priority is given to those responding to poll.

Please do join the WhatsApp group: HTC Club Sessions official

JUNIOR EASTER CAMPS

Head CoachTom is running the ever-popular Easter Holiday Camps and to avoid disappointment they can be booked via the My Sports Pro coaching site.

The Camps this year are running over two weeks starting Monday 3rd April to Thursday 6th April and Tuesday 11th April to Friday 14th April.

The camps utilise fun games and team matches, focusing on the 4 performance areas of tennis:

  • Mental
  • Physical
  • Tactical
  • Technical
... with it being Easter we suspect an egg hunt might be included.

Children are welcome to bring friends along to enjoy the fun and the what the club has to offer.

Our trusted Assistant Coaches groups are now split by age and ability so please do contact Tom if you have any questions.

CALLING ALL GIRLS

Prime Video & the LTA initiative

Head Coach Tom was selected as 1 of the first 250 coaches in the UK to help drive participation in girls' tennis.  The initiative between Prime Video and the LTA has been brought by Emma Raducanu's historic US Open victory in 2021 and fulfils Prime Video's promise to reinvest the funds from sharing the broadcast of the final with Channel 4, into British Women's Tennis.

The programme focuses on creating an environment that motivates girls to play and stay in tennis. LTA research identified that girls want to play with friends in a fun and pressure-free setting, with relatable coaches who can build confidence and drive enjoyment.

These classes include: 6 weeks of group coaching, a free tennis racket, a can of balls, a T-Shirt and wristbands for only £35 these can only be booked here - www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/TomScottCoaching/Prime-LTA-Girls

SUMMER TERM JUNIOR COACHING

This summer term, Tom will be running after-school classes as well as weekend groups for juniors. These are becoming very popular and we encourage you to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Book your junior coaching sessions here

Drop in Tot's classes are also running every Friday at 9:30am-10am.

Please contact Tom directly for more information.

JOIN CLUB TEAMS

Henley Tennis Club has several teams that compete on various weekends in the winter and summer. We are now approaching the summer season and are looking for additional players....

Over the winter our Oxfordshire Men's A team just missed out on promotion to premier division, Berkshire Men also missed out on promotion by fine margins, our Women gained their first win and our new Oxfordshire Men's B team won their division.

For the upcoming season, we have entered two Berkshire Men’s teams, meaning we now have 4 Men’s teams and one Women’s team. There are 4 Berkshire team fixtures (2 home & 2 away) and we are keen to find players for these teams.

We have Mixed Team Training run by Tom on Monday from 5:45pm to 7pm and then two further Team doubles sessions running on Monday 7pm-9pm (Men) and Friday 6:15pm-8pm (Women)

If you wish to represent the club and find out more information, please contact Tom or email Club Captain Jeremy Wright.

COUNTY SUCCESS
Our Juniors have been training hard throughout the winter and we are excited that Sebastian Sheldon has been selected to represent Oxfordshire for next county cup event on the 29th/30th April.

This is a great achievement for Sebastian and our coaching program. All of our Juniors have been training at the club after school (or sometimes before) to get as much practice as they can. Sebastien has been travelling a lot to get as much tournament time as possible.

A big Well Done! to Sebastian, parents, the coaching team and all the junior squad players.
